Latitude, the startup behind the viral hit AI Dungeon, unveiled its new AI-native platform, Voyage. The platform allows users to act as game designers by creating and playing custom, text-based role-playing games (RPGs) featuring unscripted interactions and persistent digital worlds.
The platform is powered by Latitude’s “World Engine,” a system developed over five years that utilizes multiple AI models to manage gameplay mechanics, track character progression, and maintain narrative continuity, according to TechCrunch. Users can describe specific settings—such as a haunted fishing village—and the AI generates the necessary code, NPCs, and questlines to bring the concept to life without the need for manual scripting.
“Voyage takes that core concept and blows it up 10x farther from a single AI model to a full-blown world that you have deterministic systems, challenges, progression, and persistence, and solves all the problems that I think AI Dungeon alone couldn’t fully get to,” said Latitude CEO and co-founder Nick Walton, as quoted by TechCrunch.

This engine ensures that non-player characters (NPCs) possess distinct personalities and long-term memories of player actions. For example, if a player betrays an NPC, that character may later become a rival or avoid the player entirely, rather than reverting to a repetitive script. Currently in expanded beta, the platform has already seen testers interact with more than 160,000 unique AI-generated characters.
The launch of Voyage builds on the momentum of Latitude’s first major success, AI Dungeon, which debuted in 2019. That title attracted millions of players by introducing “infinite” storylines generated by AI, establishing the foundation for generative AI in the gaming industry.
To support the new platform’s scale, Latitude also announced a partnership with Google’s AI Futures Fund. Additionally, the company has strengthened its leadership by appointing former Roblox Chief Business Officer Craig Donato as an investor and board member.
