Have you heard about the mass layoffs caused by AI? Well, now we know the real reason behind them, and the one who revealed it is none other than the “godfather of AI” himself.
In his interview to the Financial Times, Geoffrey Hinton, whose research led to the invention of popular chatbots like ChatGPT, said that job losses allegedly caused by artificial intelligence have less to do with heartless machines and more to do with greedy humans.
What’s actually going to happen is rich people are going to use AI to replace workers. It’s going to create massive unemployment and a huge rise in profits. It will make a few people richer and most people poorer. That’s not AI’s fault, that is the capitalist system.
God bless Geoffrey Hinton for saying the quiet part out loud. “It’s a rich man’s world,” indeed.
